A family of iridium catalysts for the reductive cleavage of alkyl ethers by silanes are reported. Substrate conformation plays a significant role in the observed selectivity for reduction in substituted cyclohexanes including steroid derivatives. This modular catalyst system is easily tuned through the use of simple, commercially-available monodentate phosphine ligands.
