We present the synthesis of tunable doped tungsten oxide frameworks based on the Preyssler cluster, [NaP5W30O110]14−, linked with metal (Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and combinations thereof) bridging unit. These frameworks can be further tuned by generating a variety of Preyssler-derived building blocks in which the Preyssler cluster is doped with V or Mo ([NaP5W29VO110]15− or [NaP5W29MoO110]14−) or in which the central cation is exchanged for trivalent ions (e.g. [BiP5W30O110]12−). The influence of building block and metal bridging unit was evaluated using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and electronic conductivity measurements. These materials demonstrate the promise of modular approaches to developing new solid-state metal oxides with tunable properties.
