As a growing number of complex bioactive molecules flood the pharmaceutical industry, the demand for powerful enantioselective reactions and purification methods for these compounds becomes essential. Asymmetric organocatalysis has emerged as a valuable synthetic tool complementary to traditional metal-catalyzed transformations. Our lab has reported on enantioselective Friedel-Crafts reactions of sesamol with Boc-protected aldimine electrophiles using a chiral bisphosphorylimide organocatalyst. Late-stage functionalization of these catalysts would be advantageous for reaction investigations. The progress of late state catalyst functionalization studies using the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction will be presented.
