Dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) are environment friendly and an important component of our future energy mix. DSSC consists of light sensitive dye molecule, semiconductor, and redox shuttle. Dye molecule absorbs photon from sunlight, which initiates the transfer of electrons from HOMO to LUMO of dye. Then, the electrons flow to conduction band (CB) of semiconductor (TiO2). Redox shuttle recycles the electrons to dye molecule. Transfer rate of electrons from LUMO of dye to CB of TiO2and redox shuttle to dye determine the efficiency of a given setup of DSSC. But often challenging part is to maintain this transfer rate and the direction of electron’s flow. If electrons back flow occur, known as backward flow (CB to LUMO) and electron recombination (dye to redox), then efficiency of DSSC falls significantly. To address this issue, it is very important to understand how dye molecules interact with semiconductor surface and what are the key factors regulates these interactions. In this poster presentation, we will present different binding modes of dye molecules on TiO2surface. We will also share the dynamics of dye molecules in gas and condensed phase.
