Diabetes remains a worldwide epidemic, affecting millions of people each year. Many individuals suffering from diabetes require insulin injections to maintain blood glucose levels in order to survive. For this reason, they must have a sensitive and reliable method to maintain their health.   However, biofouling limits the lifetime and accuracy of blood-contacting implantable glucose biosensors. Our solution is to use nitric oxide (NO)-releasing materials on the outer surface of the biosensor. Localized generation of NO from endogenous <i>S-</i>nitrosothiols (RSNOs) on the surface of the sensor can be used to reduce the clotting response. The metal-organic framework, Cu(II)1,3,5-benzene-tris-triazole (CuBTTri), has been demonstrated to catalyze the release of NO from RSNOs. By adjusting the amount of CuBTTri incorporated into the outer polymer membrane, it is possible to control the amount of NO released. This research presents a novel application of CuBTTri to catalyze the release of NO on the surface of a needle-type electrochemical glucose biosensor to prevent biofouling.<br/>
