We report the synthesis of a series of uranium amide complexes that have unsaturated hydrocarbon groups tethered to the ligating amide functionality. In these complexes the chelate effect is utilized to generate stable compounds in which the arene, allyl or olefin tether is bound to the U center. While U η6-arene complexes are well known, uranium η3-allyl and η2-alkene complexes are rare or unobserved. The synthesis of these novel complexes will be discussed along with their reactivity and bonding properties.
