Polyoxometalate clusters are attractive building blocks for designing new extended solids with tunable properties due to their rich redox activity and semiconducting nature. In particular, polyxovanadates are interesting materials due to their potential application in anti-bacterials, catalysis, gas sensing, and energy storage. Here, {V<sub>18</sub>O<sub>42</sub>} clusters are assembled into frameworks linked with various transition metal bridging units and the role of the metal is explored. To obtain large, phase-pure single-crystals, systematic study of reaction conditions such as vanadate precursor, various transition metal salts, counterions, pH, and concentration are explored. The resulting materials are characterized by powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR absorption spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The electronic structure and charge transport properties are studied using electronic conductivity measurements and impedance spectroscopy.
