The tendency of peptides to oxidize is intimately connected with their function and even their ability to exist in an oxidative environment. In this presentation, we use high-level computational quantum chemistry calculations on model systems to examine the influence of electrostatic and other effects in radical abstraction reactions, and hence on the oxidative susceptibility.  We will particularly examine the situation for proline.
