Resonance hyper-Rayleigh and hyper-Raman spectra are reported for CdSe and CdS quantum dots and CdSe/CdS tetrapods in toluene solution at 808 nm excitation.  The hyper-Rayleigh scattering is about an order of magnitude stronger for the tetrapods than for the quantum dots when samples of comparable optical density near 400 nm are compared.  This is consistent with hyper-Rayleigh scattering being fully allowed in the highly noncentrosymmetric tetrapods, but nearly symmetry forbidden in the quantum dots.  Both the tetrapods and the quantum dots show both Stokes and anti-Stokes hyper-Raman scattering in the longitudinal optical phonon, with relative intensities that are comparable in the linear and nonlinear spectra.  The differences between the spherical and tetrapod morphologies may be understood in terms of vibronic coupling. <br/>
