This work is focused on the synthesis of sulfonamide substrates for the purpose of forming cyclopropanes by nickel-catalyzed cross-electrophile coupling.  Cross-electrophile coupling reactions are often preferable to traditional coupling reactions because they avoid the use of nucleophilic, organometallic coupling partners, which are often expensive and require additional safety precautions.  The cross-electrophile coupling reaction has proven succesful on substrates I synthesized containing various medicinally relevant heterocycles, including pyridines and thiophenes.
