The ability to visualize chemical, biological, and materials systems with chemical selectivity is important for obtaining detailed knowledge of their structural features and spatial arrangements. In this talk, we will report our recent efforts on pushing the boundaries of spectro-imaging techniques. First, we have built a novel femtosecond vibrationally resonant sum-frequency generation microscope for rapid chemical imaging. The microscope can achieve submicrometer lateral resolution with multimodal compatibility. It enables multiplex detection in the frequency domain as well as time-resolving molecular responses. Second, we have constructed an ultrafast scattering scanning near-field optical microscope for linear and nonlinear spectral mapping with nanometer resolution. We will discuss its application in surface enhanced nano-FTIR and explore the feasibility of sum-frequency generation nanoscopy.
