The advantages of flow chemistry are now widely accepted and the synthesis community is increasingly turning to this new reaction paradigm to access reaction spaces otherwise unattainable by using batch reactors. However, the adaptation of flow chemistry by the general synthesis community is still limited by access to expensive flow reactor platforms, and the learning curve associated with trading flasks for pumps and tubing. The Dial-a-Molecule Grand Challenge Network, an association of academic and industrial chemists promoting research aimed at delivering step changes in our ability to synthesise molecules quickly and efficiently, has been an active forum for flow chemistry in the United Kingdom over the past decade. In recent years the network has come to the realisation that the technologies and practices which are essential for the rapid advancement of synthesis are beyond the resources of any single group and there is a need for centralized, national facilities. The first such facility, the Centre for Rapid Online Analysis of Reaction (ROAR) at Imperial College London was recently opened in January 2019. ROAR is a one-of-a-kind facility which provides the Dial-a-Molecule network with a one-stop shop for flow chemistry, in-situ reaction analysis, high-throughput screening, and other tools that are essential for data-centric research in synthesis. Scientists are invited to access the advanced capabilities in the facility, supported throughout the process by our dedicated team of expert scientists. In this talk we will update the community on how this new access model is making flow chemistry accessible to every chemist. The presentation will include several short case studies from our first six months of operation, including highlights from a current project developing flow processes for the production of pharmaceuticals in South Africa.
