Selective of sulfate is an important area of research in supramolecular chemistry because of its significant roles in chemical, biological and environmental processes. A tripodal-based hexaurea has been synthesized showing selective binding sulfate over other inorganic anions. Structural analysis of the complex confirmed the formation of a perfect C3 symmetric sulfate complex stabilized by a total of 12 H-bonding interactions. The receptor and the sulfate are located on the three-fold axis passing through the bridgehead nitrogen of the receptor and the sulfur atom of the anionic guest.
