FePt and FePd L1o alloys have extremely high crystalline magnetic anisotropies. Wet chemical synthesis of FePt and FePd nanoparticles offers a straightforward pathway towards nanostructuring these materials while retaining high crystalline anisotropy. Nanostructures of these materials have a great deal of utility in magnetic computer memory architectures. However, nanoparticles produced through traditional wet chemical synthesis of these compounds require high temperature annealing beyond 500° C to obtain room temperature coercivity. Such high temperatures reduce the potential utility of these nanoparticles. Analysis of the structure of particles produced in the traditional wet chemical methods shows inhomogeneity of elemental dispersion in the as-synthesized particles. A novel synthesis was developed that leading to a more homogenous particle. The resultant particles show reduced annealing temperature requirement for high coercivity. Herein both old and new synthetic methods are discussed with structural and magnetic characterization of particles of both.<br/>
