The Internet-of-Chemistry-Things (IoCT) OER and Internet-in-a-Box (IIAB) are two synergistic projects based on the inexpensive Raspberry Pi computer. The first being an online course, and the second a delivery platform for archived web-based content. The OER website, https://ioct.tech/edu/ was designed to support a chemistry elective on the Internet of Chemistry Things at the Saint Louis College of Pharmacy and the University of Arkansas-Little Rock campuses, but is of use to any Do-It-Yourself learner. The course starts with an introduction to Python programming using modified material from CS-POGIL (with permission). Students then install the Raspbian operating system on a Raspberry PI and work through a series of modules that allow them to design and troubleshoot circuits connected to physical and chemical based sensors. The ultimate goal for the course is for students to collect data, upload it to the web, and draw conclusions from their experiments. The course was enhanced using the https://web.hypothes.is/ annotation service to discuss disparate resources across the web, and through contextual links connect those sources and discussions to the actual web pages of their online OER text in the hypothesis.is web overlay. An http://internet-in-a-box.org/ (IIAB) will also be demonstrated. This Raspberry Pi containing a static image of web content functions as a mobile hotspot for remote regions without internet access, and the current image provides access to the entire content of Wikipedia (5,669,542 articles & 4,611,884 images), 8,083 Khan Academy videos, 102 PhET simulations, and much more. We aim to fully integrate these two projects, building on the Libretexts (https:/libretexts.org) hyperlibrary framework, and introduce the concept of a Textbook-in-a-Box. The technologies presented not only enable an offline digital textbook, but allow the integration of experimental data collection into the textbook, thus opening new paradigms for both online and offline learning in the chemical sciences.
