LysoProbes which are superior to commercially available lysosomal markers and lysosome-specific have been designed and synthesized. These have been used to study the morphological changes that occur in the lysosome during apoptosis. The potential role of lysosomes in autophagy have been characterized using these LysoProbes. Due to the significant sensitivity and stability of these fluorescent probes, its application in characterizing lysosomal involvement in cancer invasion and metastasis have been evaluated. These LysoProbes are being used to probe acidic organelles including the lysosome at single cell level to better understand lysosomal functions in tumor development and progression.<br/>
