Earth abundant materials enabled electrochemical transformation including ORR, HER, ECH is critically important for future sustainable production and application of energy, fuels for human society. ORR is a key reaction in fuel cells, for which our work is focused on nonprecious metal catalysts (also called platinum group metal (PGM)-free catalysts); ECH reactions not only provide an environmental-friendly way of producing energy and fuels from biomass molecules (e.g., from bio-waste) under ambient temperature and ambient pressure, but also provide a flexible and scalable solution to store electric energy in chemical bonds and retrieve this energy wherever and whenever needed. HER in neutral solutions plays a critical role in microbial electrolysis and seawater splitting. In this talk, we will introduce our recent work on the design and understanding of multifuncitonal electrocatalysts for these reactions (ORR, HER and ECH of oxygenates).<br/>
