Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have been employed in a wide range of energy-storage applications and they also improve the technological development greatly. LIBs have been used in our daily life because of their high energy density, large output current, and long cycle life. Organic electrode materials, which feature light weight, high flexibility, and low environmental impact, are attracting more and more attention. However, the high solubility of organic compounds in electrolytes is a significant issue to be solved. It is an operative strategy to polymerize the redox-active monomers to decrease the solubility and maintain the high capacity of organic electrodes.<br/><br/>Hydroquinone/quinone can undergo a reversible 2e, 2H<sup>+</sup> transfer during redox reactions. Using the derivative of hydroquinone as the building blocks of coordination polymers (CPs) can perform multielectron-transfer processes. Herein, we synthesized a quinone-based ligand 1,4-dicyano-2,3,5,6-tetrahydroxybenzene (DCTHB) and it coordinated to copper(II) ion to form a one-dimensional CPs. The linear chains packed closely via C≡N…π and C≡N…H weak interactions, which provided the flexible space between CPs and allowed rapid diffusion of lithium ions. Thus, this material was employed as cathode for LIBs and the results displayed high cycling stability and reversible charge-discharge behaviors.
