As an efficient and clean energy conversion device, solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC), which can achieve conversion from electricity to chemical fuels, has attracted great attentions. A novel nano-micro honeycomb SOEC anode with numerous pores (~3×104 cm-2), super-high porosity (~75%), low tortuosity factor (~1) and high mechanical strength has been successfully fabricated. The anode consists of a micro-scale honeycomb yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) scaffold and a nano-scale La0.6Sr0.4CoO3±δ (LSC) electrocatalytic coating. This unique structure is conductive to broadening reactive areas for generating oxygen and well-oriented channels for rapidly releasing oxygen. Significantly, such honeycomb anode demonstrates excellent ultra-low polarization resistance (0.0094 Ω cm2) and high durability for hours at 800°C and large current density of 1.2 A/cm2. The novel structure has potential to facilitate the future development of high-efficiency energy conversion and storage devices in large-scale.
