Understanding and regulating active structures, reaction intermediate behaviors and degradation factors at catalyst surfaces and electrodes under the working conditions can properly bring about the concept and strategy of developments of new heterogeneous catalysts and next-generation electrodes, which may be characterized in an adequate way by in situ/operando, time-resolved and spatial imaging XAFS techniques combined with XRD, TEM/STEM-EDS, FT-IR, UV/Vis, DFT calculations, etc. The talk showcases the regulation and in situ/operando characterization of key issues for selective catalysis involving CO/H2 conversion, alkene/CO/H2, C-H activation, H2 fuel cell, etc.
