With the increasing global energy demand, there is ever growing need for the development of alternative renewable/non-renewable sources of energy. The inherent intermittent and unpredictable nature of renewables such as wind and solar energy, necessitates the need for grid-scale electrochemical energy storage technologies. Redox flow batteries (RFBs) present a promising alternative by providing the possibility for large scale storage of energy. However, there is a need to develop new efficient, high energy density redox active materials that can be used in RFBs. In this vein, we will present the synthesis, characterization and electrochemical properties of a series of first row transition metal complexes as charge carriers for non-aqueous redox flow battery applications.<br/>
