Biomaterials useful for drug delivery, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine require more stringent design and control of polymer structure to address specific biological functions.  One strategy to address this need is to exploit strict control of protein block copolymer systems using bioengineering methods, with precise chemical tailoring in order to modulate material assembly, mechanics, dynamic shape-change properties in response to selective environmental triggers, and biological interactions.  Silk-elastin systems provide this control and we continue to evolve such systems to understand structure-function relationships with the materials in combination with modelling approaches, to direct biological outcomes. The design, characterization and utility of these systems will be discussed in the context of new biomaterials, mechanics and biological control to match in vitro and in vivo needs. <br/>
