Over the last few years, several of the target molecules coming into Biogen’s chemical development group could be synthesized using metalation reactions (<i>e.g</i>. lithium-halogen exchange, Grignard reagents, etc). In batch, these compounds typically require cryogenic conditions to ensure safety and impurity control. The focus of today’s presentation will be two case studies that investigate flow chemistry for performing lithium-halogen and Grignard reactions. We’ll share our justification for selecting flow for these transformations as well as highlight a variety of flow chemistry equipment types (microreactors, plug-flow, and spinning disk reactors) that were used during both development and kilo to multi-kilo scale-ups.  <br/>
