Spring 2019 marked the second annual American Chemical Society (ACS) Safety Summit. Upon the request of the ACS President Bonnie Charpentier and ACS Past President Peter Dorhout, more than 30 subject matter experts and stakeholders gathered to discuss strategic opportunities for the Society to support laboratory safety education. This talk will summarize outcomes relating to graduate students and explore the presenter’s perspective on opportunities and challenges for future efforts within ACS. In particular, this presentation will include a discussion of institution and employer expectations, current safety programs, safety knowledge vs. culture education, and ethical vs. legal responsibilities of institutions and societies.<br/>
