As the density of a uniform electron gas decreases, the Coulombic energy component begins to dominate the kinetic component and the electrons become "strongly correlated".  In this regime, the orbital picture breaks down and new approaches are required.  I will review progress that we have made by studying electrons confined to large spheres of various dimensionalities.
