Calcium ion batteries have the potential to be a more cost-effective, high powered, and environmentally friendly as an alternative to lithium batteries. However, lack of conductive and thermally stable electrolytes limits their use in high demand applications. Herein, we report a rechargeable calcium ion battery that is prepared through the photocrosslinking of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate in the presence of calcium salt dissolved in an ionic liquid. The gel electrolyte provides high thermal stability and avoids possible leakage of the electrolyte constituents. The gel electrolytes show room temperature ion conductivities between 10-4 to 10-3 S/cm, high thermal stability up to 300 °C, and full dissociation of the calcium salts in the ionic liquid. Batteries with a full cell configuration can be cycled over 500 times at room temperature with an initial discharge capacity of 140 mAh.g-1 and operation voltage up to 5 V
