Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are microporous hybrid materials whose metal and organic components make them useful heterogeneous catalysts in a number of transformations. Their chemical and structural tunability combines the recyclability of traditional heterogeneous materials with active site tailoring akin to homogeneous catalysts. Much of the literature has explored elegant and novel catalyst design parameters such as organic ligand functionalization, metal complex immobilization, and guest incorporation. However, these reports often focus on the development of a single design variable for a particular chemical transformation. This leads to iterative catalyst development that is slow to adapt to new targets.<br/>Taking advantage of the chemical tools available for catalyst development, we are interested in targeting high value catalytic reactions by evaluating a large number of MOF systems for these transformations. In this work, we develop a high-throughput screening (HTS) method to quickly generate kinetic data for a library of over 100 MOFs for representative organic transformations of interest. This HTS method enables us to probe a broad spectrum of chemical space that is not practical to evaluate using serial catalyst screening. HTS allows for novel catalyst design including discovery of structure-activity relationships and elaboration on top performers with tailored sub-libraries to further enhance reactivity. Using this HTS approach, the time required for MOF catalyst development can be greatly reduced and HTS can be quickly adapted to a range of catalytic reactions.
