For the last several decades, alkyne-coordinated dicobalt hexacarbonyl complexes have been effectively used as catalysts for the [2+2+1] cycloaddition formation of cyclopentenones. However, these molecules also act as click chemistry-like IR probes with variable electronic structures and electrochemical properties. By studying a series of differently-substituted alkyne complexes with two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy and IR spectroelectrochemistry, we aim to determine the ligand’s role in governing vibrational dynamics.
