The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of rumen-protected methionine (RPM) on lactation performance of dairy goats fed with amino acids-deficient diet. Thirty-three goats in late lactation were blocked by day in milk (DIM) along with milk yield, and randomly assigned to three different treatments (n=11 for each group) with a 2-wk adaptation and 5-wk formal trial: (1) MP-adequate diet (C; positive metabolic protein (MP) balance according to NRC); (2) MP-deficient diet (D; 88% MP level compared to C); (3) D supplemented with 1g RPM/goat per day (DM). Relative to D, DM treatment significantly increased milk yield. The fat corrected milk (FCM) was increased in DM significantly while no difference was found between C and D treatments. Meanwhile, feed conversion rate (FCR) calculated as DMI/milk yield was increased obviously in DM while no difference was found among three treatments of dry matter intake (DMI). Moreover, the mRNA abundance of five genes related with milk protein synthesis (CSN1S1, CSN1S2, CSN2, CSN3, LTF), three genes related with milk fat secretion (BTN1A1, XDH, ADFR) and one gene related with lactose synthesis (LALBA) were up-regulated by RPM. In summary, RPM increased milk yield, FCR, milk composition (milk protein, fat and lactose) yield and synthesis related genes expression. It is suggested that RPM may improve lactation performance of dairy goats fed with amino acids-deficient diet.<br/>
