The recent <i>Pfizer Inc. v. Chugai Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd</i>. <i>inter partes</i> review case in front of the USPTO Patent Trials and Appeals Board highlights the significant differences in nuanced antibody purification methods which impact obviousness of the described methods.  Moreover, the challenger’s burden is examined in the context of establishing a direct versus inherent property of cited art to support a theory of obviousness in antibody purification methods.
