Interface chemistry courses are widely available for different kinds of college students attending science and engineering colleges and universities all over the world. Although the basic requirements and personnel training objectives for undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctoral students are different, these courses for different levels are closely linked and not separated, especially for some research-oriented chemistry and chemical engineering disciplines. Thus, a series of progressive interface chemistry courses were developed at Harbin Institute of Technology of China for undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctoral students. The contents of each course were constructed based on the distinctions of knowledge breadths and depths along the same main lines of surface chemistry knowledge system. During the teaching practices, the interest-oriented, heuristic and project-based teaching methods were adopted in three courses with proportionally different weights, and the seminar teaching mode was conducted under different requirements. And meanwhile the cumulative assessment with different score weights was adopted for three courses, including final (midterm) examinations, seminars, and review reports. Furthermore, the progression of the interface chemistry courses were discussed in detail, and the course construction was assessed through the awards obtained by the three courses as well as student evaluations after course participation.
