Soxhlet extractions using ethanol as a solvent was performed to extract Annonaceous acetogenins (Annonacin) from the fruit of the North American Pawpaw (Asimina triloba). Extracts were then analyzed using Ultraviolet Spectrometry to identify Annonacin and any other acetogenin like compounds present in samples. Determining concentrations of Annonacin present in fruit samples were then analyzed and compared to known antioxidants through formation and detection of reactive oxygen species using visible spectroscopy in a 96 well plate reader.
