In this study, ligand-coated gold nanoclusters will be utilized in detecting electroactive dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5-HT) through electrochemical techniques. Measuring the current signature of gold nanocluster samples in response to added DA or 5-HT and comparing these to that of the free ligand provides a reference for this method. Since false positive current changes may occur with acids due to altering pH level at similar oxidation potentials, additional trials will be performed with ascorbic acid (AA) to establish the selectivity of the nanoclusters. To quantify sensitivity and effectivity, the limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantification (LOQ) will be derived through analyzing constructed calibration curves. The development of this procedure establishes a new framework for the detection of these neurotransmitters, whose abnormal presence in the body is linked to Parkinson’s, ADHD, and Alzheimer’s.
