A two-week bridge course aimed at facilitating the transition from Organic Chemistry I to II — first-year classes at Washington & Jefferson College — has been described previously. The first half of the course reviews critical concepts from Organic Chemistry I, while the second half introduces a selection of mechanistic themes that will be central to Organic Chemistry II. In a new iteration of the class, pretests were administered prior to each of the two weeks. Comparison of performance on the pretests and the exams given at the conclusion of each week allowed for measurement of student progress.
