Petroleum-based plastic is a very important and widely useful material for our society. We are using plenty of plastic (such as polyethylene bags, plastic bottles, etc.) and plastic materials every day for the smooth running of our daily life. However, petroleum-based plastic is non-degradable and took &gt;500 years to degrade. Dumping of plastic in the environment pollutes soil, air, and aquatic system. A non-degradable polymer plastic can be transformed into degradable plastic by using some degradable additive. Plasticizers are the most common additives used in the plastics industry to process the polymers. Due to the extensive use of phthalate-based plasticizers, phthalate esters have become the most widely distributed organic chemical in the environment. Exposure of phthalate esters to our food chain via contaminated soil and water may create various diseases. Therefore, biobased plasticizers as additives are of increasing interest due to their biodegradable property and thus they are environment friendly. This work deals with the synthesis of hyperbranched polyester-based bioplasticizers. Biobased hyperbranched polyesters are promising materials as a replacement of phthalate esters in PVC. Moreover, biobased hyperbranched polyesters have got much interest due to their biodegradable properties. In this work, we have synthesized hyperbranched polyester from adipic acid and polyhydroxy alcohol (propane-1,2,3-triol and propane-1,2-diol). Both, adipic acid and propane-1,2,3-triol are bio-based materials and can be synthesized from renewable sources. The synthesized materials (glycerol-adipic acid hyperbranchedpolyester) are thermally stable and may be useful as biobased plasticizers in the production of PVC based plastic.
