Due to the inappropriate use of antibiotics, the pollution of them to water bodies has become increasingly serious. Photocatalytic technology has broad application prospects in water treatment because of its green and energy-saving advantages. But how to build a catalyst is challenging. In this study, WO3/Bi2MoO6 heterostructure with core-shell structure was successfully synthesized by a simple solvothermal method. whereafter, the visible light catalytic effect of catalysts was studied by degrading tetracycline hydrochloride. The photocatalytic degradation rate constant k of the compound is much larger than that of their components. The k value of compound is 157 times than that of WO3 and 5 times than that of Bi2MoO6. This is because after WO3 and Bi2MoO6 recombine, electrons and holes are transferred to different materials due to the existence of potential energy difference, and the life of electrons and holes is prolonged. In addition, the active species capture experiment proved that hydroxyl radicals played a major role in the degradation experiment. Therefore, a possible photocatalytic mechanism is proposed. This kind of WO3/Bi2MoO6 heterostructure photocatalyst offers a new way for wastewater treatment.
