The microsystems and nanosystems technologies are becoming, if not already, pervasive throughout the daily human experience. The internet of things is expected to support a trillion micro-nano devices. Examples of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) include pressor sensors, microphones, accelerometers, time-keeping devices, photonic devices, and medical instrumentation. The growth and convergence of these technologies will expand for the foreseeable future as the miniaturization and integration processes continues. A modern hi-tech workforce will be educated by Micro Nano Technology educators to keep pace with these manufacturing developments.<br/> <br/>Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a peer led tutoring program that assists students enrolled in “traditionally difficult” courses as freshman general chemistry and sophomore organic chemistry. The program at Pasadena City College has evolved over its history to serve more than 1000 Chemistry students per semester. Evaluations over the last five years, suggest that this activity may help in closing the achievement gap for the underrepresented students. Starting Fall 2020. We have used the SI program to outreach micro and nanotechnology technical education to the students by imbedding weekly informative segments about nanotechnology and incorporating Nano-related chemistry questions in the study sessions. The effectiveness of these SI sessions in promoting and making early entry STEM students aware of micro nano technology will be discussed.
