With the goal of furthering social justice, the CA Section, ACS, has developed a robust Project SEED program and regularly scheduled WCC events. The origin of this strong focus will be detailed in this presentation, including early childhood memories, formal education, and meeting Dr. Alan Nixon, the chemist who believed chemists and the ACS could make a positive difference for those less fortunate in society. Providing supportive environments is what SEED and WCC are all about.<br/>To foster growth in SEED, like-minded high school teachers, chemist mentors, donors, and other volunteers were assembled, and their stories will be told.<br/>A more welcoming educational and working environment for women chemists is relatively recent, as recounted by the author's own experience.
