Abstract Integrated carbon capture-utilization provides a viable approach to curb anthropogenic CO2 emissions and, at the same time, produce valuable chemicals and fuels from a waste carbon feedstock. Our group has recently reported proof-of-concept demonstration of in-situ capture and utilization of CO2 in ethylene production through oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane over various dual function materials (DFMs) including double salts or CaO to impart adsorption functionality and Cr-incorporated SiO2 and H-ZSM-5, to impart catalyst functionality. The combined capture-utilization steps were carried out under semi-isothermal conditions and the effects of Cr content, C2H6 feed concentration and weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) were systematically investigated to identify the optimum conditions for this combined process. Our materials exhibited not only high CO2 capture capacity but also high ethane conversion and ethylene selectivity under optimum conditions.1,2 We also performed a rigorous kinetic analysis of the obtained data to determine the mechanism of ODHE reaction over the studied DFMs.
