Global biosecurity is currently under threat from drug-resistant organisms, bioterrorism threats and global pandemics, and has already resulted in significant economic and health challenges.<i> </i>Strathclyde Minor Groove Binders (S-MGBs) are an emerging new class of anti-infective agent, derived from the natural product distamycin, which are unique in their potential to be developed into treatments for infectious diseases caused by bacteria, parasites, fungi and viruses. This presentation will discuss the recent successes in the S-MGB drug discovery programme, including a successful translation of academic research into clinical evaluation of a new anti-infective drug.
