Zeolites are widely used in the industry, and typically synthesized for a relatively long crystallization time. However, there is still a big challenge for the fast synthesis of mesoporous zeolites. Herein, for the first time, Gamma rays (γ-rays) irradiation was introduced into zeolite synthesis. It was found that the crystallization process of zeolite NaA, NaY, Silicalite-1 and ZSM-5 were greatly accelearted. The crystallization of NaA zeolite was significantly decreased to 18 h under γ-rays irradiation at 20<sup>o</sup>C, while more than 102 h was needed for the conventional process. The adsorption capacity of CO<sub>2</sub> increased extraordinarily 6-fold compared to the NaA without γ-rays irradiation. Solid experimental evidences and density function theory (DFT) calculations domonstrated that hydroxyl free radicals (OH*) generated by γ-rays greatly accelerated the crystallization of zeolite NaA. Besides NaA, mesoporous ZSM-5 with MFI topology was also successfully synthesized under γ-rays irradiation, which possessed excellent catalytic performance for methanol conversion.
