Le Merle and Davis in their book <i>Corporate Innovation in the Fifth Era</i>, define a new era of human activity that they simply call the fifth era. Beginning at the turn of the new millennium, the fifth era is defined by the rise of digital and biotechnologies as the drivers of the latest step-change in human advancement. The evolution of the workplace from the industrial era of the 1900’s to the fifth era will inevitably lead to an evolution in the keys to workplace success. Or will it? In this presentation, I will discuss the role of creativity in industry, and how creativity has been, is now, and likely always will be one of the defining abilities of the successful researcher or entrepreneur.
