Quantum dots (QDs) have recently attracted great interest for the development of display devices owing to their excellent optical properties such as high color purity and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). In particular, they are considered as an excellent candidate for a next-generation color converting material that requires high PL property and stability. To protect QDs from harsh environments, they are usually used in the form of a polymer nanocomposite consisting of QDs embedded in a polymer matrix. However, it is difficult to fabricate highly transparent and luminescent nanocomposites due to aggregation of QDs. In addition, PL stability of QDs against water, oxygen, heat, UV exposure, and acidity remains to be significantly improved for display applications.<br/><br/>To overcome these problems, we used various approaches such as surface modification of QDs, crosslinking reaction between QDs and polymer network, and hybridization of QDs with other inorganic particles, and could successfully improve dispersion state and PL stability of QDs in the polymer nanocomposites. In addition, we fabricated light emitting diode devices using these nanocomposites and confirmed that their efficiencies were superior to those with conventional resins.
