This presentation will walk you through my career in becoming a research chemist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). I will talk you through where my love of chemistry started (high school) to where I am now. I will highlight my time in college doing geological oceanography research, synthesizing chemical standards for a reference material producer, researching some little studied chemicals in humans and the environment, doing a post-doc with the Environmental Protection Agency, and finally my work at NIST. Throughout the talk I will highlight the mentors who have helped me get to where I am today. Finally, I will finish up discussing my thoughts on being a mentor to the next group of young scientists.
