Electrochemical measurements on thorium and uranium complexes in high oxidation states have been well-established.  In contrast,  the electrochemistry of low-valent actinide complexes has received much less attention despite the recent rapid development of synthetic low-valent actinide chemistry.  To obtain a broader perspective on low valent actinide reduction chemistry and to determine ligand effects on the reduction potential of actinide complexes, a variety of tris(cyclopentadienyl) uranium and thorium complexes and related species have been examined.  Data on uranium and thorium complexes, including the first electrochemical measurements on isolated Th(II) complexes, will be presented.  From these electrochemical measurements, new synthetic routes to Th(II) compounds were discovered.
