Flame retardant technology of epoxy vitrimer is an important factor to ensure its safe use in human’s life. In this work, a novel biobased epoxy vitrimer (EV), combining high strength, excellent reprocessability and outstanding flame retardancy, which was synthesized by using diglycidyl ester of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid and vanillin based trifunctionalized carboxylic acid. The biomass content of EV reach 98.7%, and the results show that vitrimer exhibited high tensile strength of ∼49.5 MPa, tensile modulus of ∼2207 MPa and high LOI of ∼31.4%. EV could be easily reprocessed within 30 min at 140°C and maintained 82% mechanical performance after being hot reprocessed. These results suggest that EV could be used as a promising flame retardant material, which can solve the problems of flammability and unrecyclability for traditional epoxy resin.
