The SARS-CoV-2 has spread rapidly worldwide since its discovery in 2019, causing one of the most significant pandemic diseases in history (COVID-19). This pandemic puts our front-line health workers, such as doctors, nurses, and support staff, at high risks of infection due to the contact with patients and the lack of sufficient personnel protective equipment against this virus (e.g., masks and gowns). The Ag and Cu nanoparticles (NPs) are among the most advanced commercial materials, which have been widely employed in antimicrobial and antiviral applications because of their strong activity and biocompatibility. The incorporation of Ag and Cu NPs into personal protective equipment is, therefore, highly promising. In our recent work, high-quality Ag and Cu NPs as commercial products of Nanobrand Inc. and Tekna Inc.– top companies of industrial-material fabrication in Quebec have been deposited onto fabric surfaces used for protective equipment by simple dip-coating method. The prepared materials exhibit an effective antimicrobial activity on various bacteria (E.coli) and enveloped viruses such as Escherichia virus MS2, Pseudomonas virus phi6, and Human coronavirus OC43 (HCoV-OC43). Fabrics incorporated Ag and Cu NPs are being tested for the SARS-CoV-2. The preliminary results show our work's potential to become a practical approach for the fight against SARS-CoV-2.
