P-monochlorodiazasilaphosphetidine, [Me2Si(μ-NtBu)2P]Cl was treated with Bu lithium and t-Bu lithium respectively to afford [Me2Si(μ-NtBu)2P]t-Bu and [Me2Si(μ-NtBu)2P]n-Bu. These monodentate phosphine ligands appear to demonstrate different geometries when added to anhyrous nickel(II) chloride in refluxing toluene. The less sterically hindered ([Me2Si(μ-NtBu)2P]n-Bu)2NiCl2 produced a dark orange solution whereas the ([Me2Si(μ-NtBu)2P]t-Bu)2NiCl2 generated a slightly green solution. Only ([Me2Si(μ-NtBu)2P]n-Bu)2NiCl2 was characterized by 1H-NMR spectroscopy.
