The ongoing COVID pandemic caused the General Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Alabama at Birmingham to switch from in person to online format only a few weeks before the start of the fall semester. After receiving a frantic email message from the lab coordinator for a library activity that could replace a laboratory activity during the first week of the CH 116 course with 25 sections and 835 students, the solution was to create an online interactive tutorial. This presentation covers the implementation of the library tutorial using LibWizard by Springshare as a first attempt to provide information literacy to a large laboratory course based on lessons learned from other STEM librarians. The library tutorial consists of four modules with short videos and assessment questions on identifying and finding scientific sources. A certificate of completion is generated based on a threshold score which is uploaded as an assignment in Canvas to earn points for the activity. A review of the analytics showed surprising results in what the students did and did not comprehend about using the library to find sources for their lab reports.
