<br/><br/>Clean water supply is continuous to be at risk, as issues in climate change, human population, industrialization, and urbanization continue to rise. The sustainability of clean drinking water for homes and industries has become a global challenge. This work is therefore aimed at fabricating robust reduced graphene oxide membranes to help convert seawater to drinkable water. Holey reduce graphene oxide is synthesized by reacting graphene oxide with hydrogen peroxide, followed by hydrothermal reactions. The resulting reduced graphene oxide suspension is then used to fabricate reduce graphene oxide membranes via vacuum filtration. The membrane structures are analyzed by XPS, SEM, FTIR, etc. The filtration for seawater is carried out using forward osmosis. The efficiency and the permeability of the membranes are evaluated by UV-visible absorption and ionic conductivity measurements. The best filtration performance was achieved with a rejection rate of 99%. This work may lead to low-cost, highly efficient water filtration membranes for seawater desalination.
